What if you could trust yourself all the way through a painting?
Not just when inspiration strikes.
Not just while everything is going beautifully.
But when you don't know how to begin, when you're terrified of ruining what you love, and when everything turns into a mess.
ART4JOY Online is a three-month creative journey designed to help you build or strengthen the capacities that make creative freedom possible. Every last Sunday of the month:
27 September · 31 October · 29 November
Live online · 20:00–21:30 CET in Zoom aka Luna's PLAY LAB.

You want to paint more freely.
You want to trust your instincts, follow what excites you and stop needing to know where everything is going.
And yet…
You find yourself in front of a blank page or canvas and think too much.
You finally make something you love and become terrified of ruining it.
And when the painting inevitably turns into a complete mess, you think:
Now what?
These are three of the biggest places I see creatives lose their freedom.
Not because they aren't creative enough.
But because these moments ask for something more than technique.
They ask for creative capacity.

Three creative capacities
You can know about colour.
You can understand composition.
You can have drawers full of beautiful materials and years of classes behind you.
And still freeze when you don't know what to do next.
Because creative freedom isn't only about what you know.
It's about what you're able to stay with.
Uncertainty. Risk. The possibility of ruining something.
The messy middle.
Not knowing.
Creative freedom isn't something we think ourselves into.
We practise our way into it.
It's not about more techniques to master.
It's about three creative capacities to develop and practice.

SEPTEMBER — BEGIN
I overthink everything I create.
How do I get out of my head and actually begin?
We'll loosen the grip of planning, judging and trying to make something "good," and practise spontaneous expression instead.
Body before brain.
Impulse before intention.
Making the first mark before knowing why.
Impulse before intention.
Making the first mark before knowing why.
You'll practise beginning more easily — spending less time thinking about what to do and more time actually creating.

OCTOBER — RISK
I'm terrified of ruining it.
Something very interesting happens once you begin creating more freely:
You make something you like.
And suddenly there's something to lose.
We'll explore attachment, preciousness and creative risk — and practise crossing that uncomfortable edge where your mind says:
STOP. DON'T TOUCH IT.
What happens when you dare to ruin it?
You'll practise becoming braver with work you already like — willing to risk what's good to discover what else might be there.
This practice is about not falling in love too soon.
This practice is about not falling in love too soon.
Because the next level of your painting often sits just beyond the thing you're afraid to ruin.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WHEN IT BECOMES A MESS.
This is where we develop Chaos Courage — learning to stay with the mess without panicking, fixing or abandoning it.
But we don't stay in chaos forever.
The first 90% is play.
The last 10% is puzzle.
The last 10% is puzzle.
In that final 10%, I'll show you how to begin moving towards resolution using universal art principles — taking away, connecting parts, creating rest spaces, and playing with contrast, value and colour harmony.
Not to make the painting perfect.
But to help its wild, spontaneous parts begin to speak to each other.
You'll practise trusting the messy middle and knowing how to begin finding your way out of it.

Imagine what it would feel like if…
You could begin without needing an idea first.
You could make something you love without immediately becoming its protector.
You could feel the impulse to make a risky move — and follow it.
You could watch your painting descend into complete chaos without assuming you've failed.
You could recognise when play has run its course and begin moving towards resolution.
And you could stand in front of something you don't understand yet and think:
I don't know what to do next. But I trust myself to find out.

The highest form of research is play.
Aliveness doesn't come from knowing what to do.
It comes from discovering what is alive in you.
And we can't discover that by endlessly planning the outcome.
We discover it through making.
Moving.
Trying.
Ruining.
Responding.
Looking again.
Play gives us somewhere to practise uncertainty without needing to get it right.
And little by little, something changes.
When we begin to trust our own creative responses, we awaken our inner four year old genius.

So what is ART4JOY Online?
Over three months, we'll meet once a month inside my online Play Lab.
Each gathering is experiential.
I won't simply talk to you about creative freedom.
We'll practice it together.
I'll introduce the month's creative capacity, guide you through playful experiments and give you space to explore it through your own hands, materials and instincts.
Three live online gatherings
27 September — BEGIN
31 October — RISK
29 November — STAY (& RESOLVE!)
20:00–21:30 CET
Replays are available for when you miss a session but I do have a little surprise for those who attend LIVE all three sessions.
You don't need to become a different kind of artist.
You don't need to be more talented.
You don't need to be more disciplined.
And you certainly don't need to arrive knowing what you're doing.
Come if you're curious about what might happen when you loosen your grip on the outcome and become more willing to follow what's happening now.
Whether you've been painting for years or are only beginning to rediscover your creativity, the work is the same:
learning to hear — and trust — your own creative voice.

I didn't learn creative freedom by knowing what I was doing.
I came to painting later in life, completely self-taught, and much of what I've discovered has come through doing the opposite of what my frightened mind wanted me to do.
Making the mark.
Taking the risk.
Staying after I thought I'd ruined it.
Waiting long enough to discover another way through.
ART4JOY grew from that practice.
I don't teach you how to paint like me.
I want to help you become brave enough to discover how YOU paint.

What happens when we practice this together?

You don't have to know what to do next.
That's perhaps the greatest misunderstanding we have about creative confidence.
We think confidence means knowing.
I think it's something much more useful.
It's being able to stand in front of the unknown — whether that's a blank page, a painting you love or a glorious bloody mess — and trust that you can respond.
That's what we'll practise together for three months.
BEGIN.
RISK.
STAY.
RESOLVE.
Not because you'll always know what to do.
But because you'll know you can find your way when you don't.
